At Patrician Presentation, CSPE is a core subject of the Junior Cycle Wellbeing programme, supporting students in developing all six wellbeing indicators: Active, Responsible, Connected, Resilient, Respected and Aware. These indicators highlight what matters most for students’ overall wellbeing. The CSPE short course is built around three strands: Rights and Responsibilities - Understanding human rights and the responsibilities that come with themExploring social justice, diversity, and equality Global Citizenship - Examining global issues such as climate change, poverty, and migration Learning about Ireland’s role in the international community Democracy - How government works in Ireland and the EU. Understanding the law, voting, and how citizens can make a difference
Assessment: CSPE is assessed as part of Wellbeing in the Junior Cycle and is not examined in the final Junior Cycle exam. Instead, students complete:
Classroom-Based Assessments (CBAs) (i) Focus on active citizenship projects, group work, and reflection (ii) Students take action on an issue they care about (e.g., charity work, environmental projects, awareness campaigns)
